Description

In this lesson, students will learn the functional language for evaluating the piece of arts in the context of art and artists. By the end of the lesson, learners will have a better understanding of functional language evaluation and will have had practice using that language and be better able to talk about art and artists

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for evaluation in the context of art and artists

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a roleplay in the context of work of art

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the main aim and predict what the kind of content they are likely to discuss

The teacher will ask what about was the previous listening task. And elicit the word evaluation from students. The teacher will give the listening script and asks students to look at the highlighted words in the text. Work in pair and think if it has a negative or positive meaning.

Focus on Language (7-10 minutes) • to self discover the functional language

The teacher explains the task and gives handouts. Students need to put the phrases 1-8 into two groups: one positive, one negative. Students will check with their partner. Teacher will provide correct answers The teacher will draw on a board two smiles and writes positive and negative. Then asks students to say the words related to evaluation.

Language clarification (5-7 minutes) • to give feedback and clarify the correct answers

The teacher will clarify if necessary and shows the correct answers.

Controlled practice (3-4 minutes) • to provide better understanding of the functional language

The teacher explains the task 2. Students work in groups and use the expressions in exercise 1 to say how much they think they are worth.

Semi-controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To ensure that students understood the functional language

Students will work individually on task 3 and check with their partner. Then the teacher will provide the correct answer. Then they will try to practice the dialogue with each other.

Freer practice (7-10 minutes) • to practice the usage of functional language in non controlled task

Students will be divided into groups. Each group will have three students. The role play game task will be explained to each student (A, B and C). Students will role play the task. The teacher will monitor and collect some good and not good examples of language usage. Later teacher will clarify the mistakes.
