Description

In this lesson, students learn about numbers from 1 to 10 through counting objects around them and reading number plates. The lesson starts by recognising numbers as figures, then as words. Finally, numbers as figures and worsds ( spelling ) are to be be matched and recognised by students.

Materials

Abc Global Elementary, Unit 1, p 8, handouts.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of listening for gist and specific detail.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review and practice numbers from 0 to 10.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I,ll introduce myself and check the students' names.Then I'll mutter numbers for seconds.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I write numbers on the board and let students read them freely for two minutes. After that I'll introduce them. After that, they read them in chorus and individually..

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'll highlight some facts about numbers ( 1,2,3,8 ).

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Listening to tapes and watching number plates. the students will be more stimulated to participate. Ex.1 is done in pairs in a competitie way.Then I'll go over pronunciation and do some drilling. Ex.2. A bunch of numbers on small pieces of paper will be handed out. One student gives a number, and the other say the numbers before and after. Listening, listening for gist, and listening for details are followed by ICQs and CCQs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Written and oral practices are carried out in pairs.
