To provide listening for gist and detail in the context of animals rights and learn new vocabulary.
Subsidiary Aims

To practice pronunciation by using intonation in order to express emotions.
Procedure (29-45 minutes)
Topic introduced by using pictures of wild animals around the classroom. The whole class pays attention for a few minutes to the pictures and students have the chance to practice with the peers. The attention centered on the fox and a few questions are asked to make sure that students have the context clear. Immersion into the reading of an article.
Introduction to new vocabulary in order to facilitate the listening. Worksheet with matching definitions.
Listening for gist: provides the definition of what a debate is, learners listen to the radio extract and complete exercise 3 - Put the sentences in the correct order.
Pre- teaching vocabulary with definition and second reading to infer specific meaning and understand the debate going on. Exercise 4 given. Expressing opinions, functional language.
Student are given exercise 5 and introduced to the section focussed on stressing the words to express emotions. Exercises 1-3 in pairs. Transcript of the short listening is given and discussion opened.
