Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of features and to review and practice of language used for descriptions in the context of superheros.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice for questions and answers in the context of superheros.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will present "superteacher" who introduces abilities and features of superheros by realia, miming and drawing. I will elicit/refresh previous knowledge and provide the necessary key vocabulary for the following exercises.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a input and visual support for the production expected in the coming task

"Select your superhero." (There are more superheros available than students present; they will have to discuss the distribution of superheros; there are some reserve superheros to prevent students from crying if necessary) "Chose a power." (Each superhero can only have one superpower such as freezing, firing, lasing; students cut out the power and glue it on their picture) "Colour your power." (To ensure that they also have colours to describe and visually separate fire/ice)

Productive Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide examples for the production expected in the coming task and to provide written record/ practice target productive skills

1. Model the language/ demonstrate the task (teacher: A3 printout example) 2. Demonstrate the task (student open example: A3 printout example) 3. Students write descrptions of their superheros

Productive Follow-up (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Model the language 2. Set a teacher-student example 3. Set an open student-student example 4. Students mingle and interview each other about their superheros

Flexistage (8-10 minutes) • To provide more practice for the productive skills

Different situations will be presented that the students's superheros have to solve: "A dinosaur attacks!" -> My superhero has got a laser/ My superhero can freeze "You're locked in your classroom!" -> My superhero is strong/ My superhero can climb
