Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, Ss will have practised vocabulary related to jobs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise the pronunciation of key words and expressions
  • To practise fluency

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students

Show Ss pictures Then, Ask Ss questions to elicit a number of job titles Now ask Ss to discuss in pairs which job they would like to do most/least.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss work in pairs to accomplish Ex 2a p51 Ss divide the phrases into three categories: -I would like a job like this. -I wouldn't mind doing a job like this. -I wouldn't want a job like this Now ask the Ss to have a second look at the phrases in bold and tell me which one is not clear.

Teach (10-14 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Go through the answers provided by Ss Teach the new vocabulary by paying attention to meaning, form, and pronunciation -What does it mean to be Physically fit? Is it related to the body or to the brain? Is it a weak body? Name one job that requires someone who is physically fit -What does it mean to be creative? Is s/he someone who brings old idea? Are his/her ideas interesting? -What does the word qualifications mean? Does s/he have certificates/diplomas? Does s/he have skills? -What does it mean to be competitive? Does he want to win? Does he want to be better than others? -What does the word challenging mean Is it difficult? is it interesting?

Test #2 (5-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss work in pairs on ex 9 p 40 Check answers with the whole class

Free practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Role play Student A plays the manager, Student B plays the applicant. Give Ss pieces of papers with different colors (Red & Green) Split Ss into Two groups (Ss having the red color play the role of manager, the rest play the role of Applicant) Give students role cards with information and prompts Ss spend few minutes preparing what they are going to say Start the activity with a demonstration (One pair performs in front of the whole class) Change the teams (Those who played the manager role will do the applicant and vice versa)
