*Teacher will elicit some vocabulary words (needed for video) *Help students with vocabulary if needed. *Ss will watch a short video, containing a murder mystery *They will be instructed to work in pairs to try to solve this mystery *When ss have figured out the answer, or are having a very difficult time solving the mystery, teacher will show answer key and talk about why this is the answer and if the students agree or disagree with the outcome *WCFB - on the topic and the mystery that was solved. Possible error correction if needed.
*Slideshow with pictures will be shown, to elicit vocabulary words that may be necessary to understand the clues of the mystery. *If ss have trouble with the words, teacher will help. *Word that is not on the slides: a will. Ask ss if they know what a will is? Once ss have tried to come up with a meaning, teacher will clarify.
*Teacher will explain the activity to ss. *Teacher will give an example and model the task so ss can better understand what is expected from them.
*Ss will be instructed to look around the room at the pieces of paper that are hung up. *They will be split into 2 groups, Group A and Group B. * They will be instructed that Group A will be green, Group B will be blue. Each group will stand up and grab their given colors' clues off the walls. They will also be instructed to grab 5 pieces of red paper (suspects). *Ss will receive a handout from the teacher, containing boxes that they can write suspect names, why the suspect is guilty, how they killed Mr. Crabtree, what do they think he was killed with. *Ss will be instructed to work in groups to solve the mystery. As fast as they can, explain to ss that this is a competition. Whoever solves the mystery first is the winner. *ICQ's - Are you working in groups? Yes - Is this a race? Yes *Teacher will monitor as ss work together to complete the task, take notes while monitoring.
*Ss will not know that there is more than one solution possible for the mystery. *When they have completed that task, group a and group b will sit facing each other, and explain from one group to the other, what conclusion they came up with. *Ss will be instructed to use "I agree with....because" and "I disagree with....because" *Error correction will be provided if needed (based on the monitoring that was done)
