To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in pairs and groups. Talking about things to take/not take on holiday. Asking and answering questions about what you did last year. in the context of Travel
Procedure (45-45 minutes)
Im going on holiday and this is my suitcase. Look at HO1. (breasting) What can you see? How many things can you say in English? Hand out and direct questions at class for feedback. If there aren't many volunteers, nominate.
Look at HO2. (breasting) Context: This is Walt and Thelma Tompson. What can you see in the picture? a car and two people. Where are they? in a car Where do you think the are going? on holiday What do you do before you go on holiday? MIME to check phrases: pack a bag, turn off the lights, close the doors/windows. (CD. 1.78) Look at HO3 (breasting) Who packed the bags? Read HO3 and Listen to the CD of the conversation that Thelma and Walt are having to find the answer. (Hand out HO3) Play CD 1.78 ask for the answer Stick HO4 words to the board. Which words can you find in the dialogue? Pair Ss up. Nominate a student per group to come place the words identified in the text in the middle of the board under 'They had the following things in the car' (5 words)
write an example sentence: I turned off the light. Explanation: (meaning) The simple past is used to describe an action that occurred and was completed in the past. CCQ's: Was the light on before they left? yes Is the light on now? no FORM (on board) + Past simple of regular verb: verb + ed (I wanted the iPod) - Past Simple Negative: didn't + verb (she didn't remember the iPod) ? Past Simple Question: Did + subject + verb (Did you pack my digital camera?) Pronunciation Pronunciation: I turned off the light. /d/ /t/ /ɪd/ arrived asked wanted failed crossed decided agreed stopped started There is linking between turned and off. Sentence stress: turn verb Model and drill.
Look at HO5 Read the sentences and fill in the gaps with the correct form. + or -. hand it out. Place students in pairs to check their answers. Check answers with whole class.
Look at HO1. Write down the names of 5 things on paper. Don't show your partner. Ask each other what they packed. Divide Ss into pairs. (A,B,C,D,E,F) x 2 let them pair up look at HO6 (chesting) Make question sentences about last night. Use the words in the box. Give example: Did you watch television? Place students in pairs. Ask and answer the questions of ex. 3 Yes, I did. No, I didn't. Hand out.
