Abc HO Jumbled Sentences's Answer Key

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of adverbs of frequency by doing controlled, semi-controlled and freer exercises in pairs and groups in the context of daily routine activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Night and Day in the context of Daily

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to show some pictures on the white board as FB to the SS about daily routine activities that some are done in the morning and some at night. Then I am going to ask them to talk about them to the WC. I am going to ask them elicity questions: e.g. Which activities do you do in the morning? e.g. Which activities do you do in the afternoon? e.g Which activities do you do in the evening? e.g. Which activities do you do at night? Then I am going to show simple present tense on the timeline on the WB.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I am going to give them an article which includes highlighted adverbs of frequency. I am going to ask them to skim the text to answer the question among three states. 1) A typical morning. 2)Morning people and night people. 3) When people sleep. Then, I am going to ask them to read the text again to guess the meaning of the highlighted adverbs of frequency through sentences.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The SS will be asked to tell me how they can ask questions with the adverbs of frequency. Then, I will show them the correct form of "How often" question on the WC. e.g. How often do you wake up early? e.g. How often do you go to work on time?

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I am going to draw a cline on the WB and ask the SS to put the adverbs of frequency on it. SS will understand the meaning of each adverb based on the cline. Then, I am going to show the correct form of the sentences by marking different parts of them with another colour. Then I will mark the stress on each sentence and in the end I do drilling.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The SS will be divided into three groups of three. They will be asked to put jumbled sentences into the correct order on the wall. Then, I am going to ask them to check their answers with the key under their desks.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The SS are going to change the adverbs of frequency in each sentence based on their daily routine activities. Then, they will be asked to share their sentences with their peers to discuss about them.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The SS are going to find people who they do different daily routine activities in different frequency of time. Then they will be asked to tell their answers to the WC. This activity is freer than previous ones so the SS are going to produce the TL.
