To provide practice of listening for gist and to expose students to English spoken with a variety of accents with the context of weather
Subsidiary Aims

To provide students with the opportunity to speak and practice
Procedure (26-40 minutes)
- Show some photos about the types of weather to students . - Elicit the answers from Ss and write some of them - Ask Ss to answer the question shown on the WB " what kind of weather do they like?" -Show an example of warm-up activity Ex;1 on the WB * I love warm sunny day but I hate rainy day. -Ask Ss to work in pairs -Ask Ss to put the types of weather in order of preference from 1 ( Ilove this weather) to 5 (I hate this weather). As number 1.. number 2.. -Elicit the answers from Ss in pairs
-Before the gist listening, ask Ss to match the words with the definitions individually "To match the words with the definitions" *Obviously :a fact can easily be noticed or understood SYN clearly *Prefer : to like someone or something more than someone or something else, so that you would choose it if you could *Humidity: when the air is very warm and wet *cloudy: a cloudy sky, day etc is dark because there are a lot of clouds.OPP: clear -After they match,ask Ss to check the answers with partners and then elicit the answers from Ss in pairs -Ask Ss to listen to four people talking about their favourite weather in Ex;1(pg 87) *Which speaker doesn`t say the word "sunny ? " The answer is Al-Mutasem,Saudi Arabia
-Ask Ss to work individually and listen again and match the sentences a-e to the speakers 1-4 a- I don`t like it when it is too hot b- I go out in sunny weather c- I obviously prefer it when it is warm. d- If it`s cloudy or like windy or snowy I don`t go out. * Answers: 1/d ,2/c ,3/e ,4 a and the extra one is "b" -Ask Ss to check their answers with partners and then elicit the answers from Ss randomly. - -
-Ask Ss to guess where we use the interjection (To give you time to think of what you want to say) -Give an example for "Um":/ʌm, əm / and" Uh"/ʌ / * Um, yeah, I guess so. * Yesterday the weather was, uh awful. . -Ask Ss to read and listen to What Mireille says about her favourite weather and complete it. *Listen and complete the text with "um" or nothing -Elicit the answers from Ss
-Set Ss in pairs as A and B and ask the questions on the HOs to each other without showing their cut- ups to their partners -Pass out a HO to help Ss answer the questions asked by his partner -Elicit the answers from Ss randomly.
-Ask Ss to work individually -Ask Ss to draw and write "My favorite weather" page -Elicit the answers from Ss -
