Procedure (35-44 minutes)
Ask sts what they were talking about in the previous part of the lesson. - What did you read about in the text. Have sts work in pairs and answer the following questions. (use the projector to show the questions on the board) Are you a holiday person? What kind of holidays do you prefer? Where do you want to go this summer? Get fb from one or two students about their partners.
Ask sts to go back to question 5 in the text, read it silently and underline the verbs in a, b, and c. -time limit: 1 minute ICQ's: - Which question are we reading again? - Are we gonna work together or individually? - Are we underlining verbs or nouns? Have sts check with a partner the get answers from them and tell them that you are not going to work on all of them, so you'll focus only on 'meeting, find, and wait'.
Give sts HO1 (folded) and have them work individually and answer question a. time limit: 2 mts When they finish, have sts peer-check. Go through the questions with sts - if sts have a problem, go back to the sentence, highlight, and clarify. Stress the idea of firm arrangements (fixed time or place)
Without writing them on the board, chain-drill the pronunciation of the following sentences. 1. I'm going to find the tourist information center. 2. I'm meeting the travel rep in the bar. 3. I'll just wait and see what there is on offer. Have some choral and individual drilling. Use finger technique to show contractions. Use your hand to show sentence stress. After drilling, show sts the sentences on the board. Ask them which words are stressed -put big dots above the stressed syllables in these words - colored marker Put a small linking symbol under I'm and I'll to show contractions. circle 'to', underline 'going to' and teach them 'gonna'
Have sts unfold HO1 and answer b individually, then peer-check - time limit: 1 ICQ: Are we working alone or with a partner? Go through the answers with sts quickly if no problems. For HO2 (folded), have sts work in pairs and do exercise 1. ICQ: Are we working alone or with a partner? Go through the answers with sts quickly if no problems. Have sts work in pairs to do exercise 2 on page 57. - time limit: 3 mts Monitor and check sts' answers. Have some students write the answers on the board. -make sure that you write the numbers in a way that allows more than one student to write on the board at the same time.
Give sts HO3 (folded) and tell them that we need to add 3 more questions for the quiz. You've already done 8. have them read it silently in one minute. Highlight the fact that you've used a different future form in each answer. Have them work in pairs and do numbers 6 and 7 - Push them to use the three future forms. Have them work in groups of four to compare the sentences they've written. Take just one example from a student.
Show sts HO4; tell them that they have to move and ask 5 different students about their special plans for tomorrow, next week, or next month. They also have to ask follow-up questions to get some details. - time limit: 5 mts Circulate and monitor sts; take notes of errors for delayed fb. Write some of the incorrect sentences on the board and have sts to think about them and correct them.
