Friends and Family - Grammar Lesson - Using Wh- question in present simple

Description

In this lesson, the students will learn Wh- questions in the present simple. I will address Grammar through scramble sentence exercises and through meaning, form, and pronunciation. We will lead into practice sessions followed by a mingle exercise.

  • To provide clarification of present simple Wh- questions in the context of family and friend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Mingle exercise in the context of family & friends

Procedure

Lead - In (3-5 minutes) • Tie in Context from previous lesson and clarify the meaning of Where, When, What, Who

I will use 4 slides to introduce each - Slide #1 - Where (place) - Pictures of Malls (Konyon Mall, la Piazza del Signoria - Florance, Home in Abu Dhabi, Hoan Kiem Lake, Vietnam) Slide #2 - When (time) - Pictures of clocks & hourglass Slide #3 - What (Information) - Pictures of Information booths Slide #4 - Who (person) - Picture of people Elicit the meaning behind the pictures, then introduce the Wh- word.

Grammar Ex. 1 (10-12 minutes) • Teach Do - You

Give 4 Sentences: 1. Where do you see your friends? 2. When do you meet your friends? 3. Why Do you meet there? 4. What do you do there? Have them discuss in PW and answer questions. Freer Practice - Mingle Exercise (8-10 minutes) • Facilitate speaking through Mingle exercise

Give Ss HO#4. With 2 Questions and 5 answers slots with names. They will freely mingle and gain 5 different answers from 5 different Ss. The aim for the Ss is to pick to then circle what they think is the most different or strange answer. Through monitoring I will find the most different/strange answers to write on the board as well as any sentences that need error correction. I will then have them return to their seats. I will do delayed answer correction on the WB with WC. The sentences are: 1. Where does ______eat out? 2. Where does ______go on holiday? If there is time switch grouping and re-do
