Beginner level

Description

In this lesson, students will be able to contrast the indefinite articles a and an, and determine the difference between the use of them. Next , they will be given some new words and are asked to match them with appropriate verbs. After presentation and practice stages are done, we will move to production stage through asking them to produce the TL.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask some questions " What is your job? , Have you got a brother? etc" -Write their answers on the board and underline a,an

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Have them look at the picture of Colin Brodie and guess his job, age etc. -Project some questions on the board if they find asking question difficult. -Ask them to read the text -After they are done with reading, have them work in pairs and answer the questions in Exercise 2. -Play the audio 5.8 and have them check their answers -Show the answer key on the board

Presentation-Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Ask them to underline a/an in the text -Ask them to work in pairs to figure out the difference between a/an -Show them flashcards and ask them to say what they see for example ; a boy -Then show them 3 boys and ask if we can say "a boy" again to make them elicit the usage of a/an

Practice-Controlled (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Give the instructions and use ICQs -Give them the HO -Ask them to fill in the gaps with a/an -Pair check -Give them the answers

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Show your suitcase to students -Ask"Where am I going now?","What kind of things do I have in my suitcase?"etc. -For elicitation "When you are taking a shower what do you need?-shampoo", "When you are brushing your teeth what do you need?-toothpaste -After they find vocabulary , show the object and drill the pronunciation -Then give them the HO and ask them to fill out with the things they may take when they are going on holiday -Work with your partner and try to learn the different things he/she'll take

Production-Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Give the instructions and check if they understood with ICQs -Give them the HOs(They will see some famous people. First they need to describe that person and say what would they take if they were that person? ) -After they write, they will work as a group and one of the Ss will read his/her sentences , the others try to find who is he/she.
