To provide speaking practice in finding out information about old friends.
Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Briefly introduce yourself o the class and check you know the Sts' names.
Use the photo from page 8 to refresh the Sts's memories of the listening track they heard in the previous lesson. In pairs, get them to share what they can remember.
Tell Sts they will read some more information about Christine(the woman from the listening text).Get the Sts to read and ask them if it was easy or they need more information.
Divide the class in half and do Grammar ex.4 on page 9.Each group looks at their info cards and prepares questions for anything they still don't know.Regroup the Sts,so that they can ask each other their questions in order to complete the text.
While you monitor the prior activity, make a note of any incorrect question forms you hear.Put them up on the board,so that Sts can work together to correct them,if possible. Do Speaking ex.1.Get Sts to correct the question forms.Depending on the number of Sts,regroup them so that they can do ex.2. (for example,if you have 9 Sts,then three groups of 3 doing A,B, and C)
On the board, elicit topics of information that we often want to know about people that we haven't seen for a long time (e.g. jobs, family, hobbies, where they live,etc.).Tell Sts that it is 10 years in the future (write 2025 on the board) and they are all 10 years older. Prepare a handout with the topics on and a blank space next to each one for Sts to create mini-biographies about themselves for 2025.
Inform the class that Uludag University is having a party and all the Sts are invited.Get them to mingle around the classroom and talk to multple partners-asking and answering questions based upon their mini-biographies. Conduct FB and Sts share what they found out about each other. Wrap up the lesson.
