Description

In this lesson students learn about Past Perfect Continuous focused on given language area. The lesson starts with a discussion about story which happened in the past. This is followed by writting exercises. There is some control practice through form and function.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Lead-in) (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the lesson and make the context of the lesson interesting for the Ss.

-show the picture related with the story. -put Ss into pairs and ask them do to Language focus 1, p.34. -check answers with the class. Picture; What is this picture? What happened to the people on the picture?

Stage 2 (Grammar) (3-8 minutes) • To understand the Past Perfect Continuous.

-put Ss into pairs to read the information and answer the question. -refer them to sentences in the exercise. -clarify anything the Ss do not understand or misunderstand. -check answers together with Ss

Stage 3 (Controlled Practice) (3-10 minutes) • Practice new language.

-put Ss in pairs ask them to describe the picture on p. 34 -if necessary teach words; give a sharp poke, grateful, panic. -ask Ss to complete the stories on p.35 -check the answers in pairs.

Stage 4 (Pronunciation) (2-4 minutes) • How we say some words. Attention to what stress is.

-go through pronunciation and draw Ss attention to what stress is. -tell Ss that most important words are stressed and the other words are often weak. -write the example on the board and aks Ss if they can figure out stressed words. examples: 1.A police draw a car. 2.An Australian woman travelling home from Melbourne was driving down a narrow road one dark evening when she entered a tunnel.

Stage 5 (Speaking) (4-12 minutes) • Practice constructions.

-put Ss in pairs and ak them to tell each other a true stroy that happened to them or a friend. -refer them to the ideas and allow time to make notes. -monitor and provide any vocabulary they need. example: 1).We were walking through...when we saw 2).The two young men had....

Stage 6 (Feedback) (4-7 minutes) • To give guidance.

-get Ss to do ex. 3a and 4 on p.23 and ex.5 on p. 24 from the workbook -monitor and give answers for Ss to check.
