Procedure

Introduction (2-4 minutes) • To introduce words that students need to understand before proceeding to the formal lesson.

Ask students with they know the meaning of adventure, mishap, narrative and continuous tense.

Warm up (3-5 minutes) • Engage Ss by asking them to look at the picture and ask what they know about it.

Give Ss a minute to read the text and answer the question. Ex. 1, page 36

Presentation (5-6 minutes) • To apply the structure of a narrative

Put Ss in pairs and tell them they are going to write a story but first must think about structure. Do the first example as class. Tell Ss to do the rest. example 2, page 36. Monitor and help if necessary. Change partners if possible and get Ss to check their answers.

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • Students will be able to write a narrative.

Tell Ss that they are going to write a story. Ex. 3a. Introduce the topic and allow time to think. Emphasize that they must only structure the story at this stage. Allow time for Ss to write their story. Once everyone has finished you could collect the stories and stick them on the walls and asks Ss to walk around, look at the stories and decide which is the most frightening.

Grammar (5-10 minutes) • Ss should be familiar with the continuous aspect in other tenses.

Teacher just need to point out continuous aspect. Put Ss into pairs and set the cartoon activity, language focus 2, page 37. Check answers as a whole class. Ask Ss to complete the table in the Analysis box. Then ask them to discuss the question. Hand out the answers and clarify if there is anything they do not understand or misunderstand. You might find Language summaries B and C on page 147 useful at this point.

Feedback (8-10 minutes) • To check if the student understood the lesson

Get Ss to do Example 8 and 9, pages 26/27 from the WB. Monitor and help if necessary. Handout the answers for Ss to check.
