Materials
Main Aims

To provide practice of reading for gist and detail in the context of numbers
Subsidiary Aims
-
To review and practice more number-related vocabulary
Procedure (38-45 minutes)
I will introduce myself and I will tell the students that we are going to do a reading and a couple of exercises about some numbers. For the warm up exercise I will use the teachers book and do an exercise from it. I will draw a big grid on the board and i will give each student one copy of it. i will ask them to write the letter i say to the box i say (matching) (e.g. In box no 5 write the letter K). when finished i will have students work in pair to check their answers. then i will give whole class feedback and do drilling of the numbers
i will divide students into groups of 4 or 5 and i will give each group 10 pieces of paper with random numbers written on them. i will ask the students to keep the papers faced down until i finish giving instructions. i will tell them to have a look at their cards within their group for 10 20 seconds then come up to the board and place them in correct order. first group finishes wins.
i will read the numbers out from the Vocab exercise 3 and i will have students write them down. i will let them check in pairs before i give the answer in the whole class feedback. then i will read the answers out and write them on board. i will drill every number and do extra drilling on problematic numbers as 14//40 13//30 etc.
before giving the text i will write down the words Common, Lucky, Unlucky and Sequence. i will match pictures with each word and try to keep it as simple as possible to make them easier to understand as all of the words are abstract words. i will ask ccqs. for example is it common to sea snow in winter? // is it lucky if i find money in my pocket etc. to check if they have the general idea
i will write down the numbers 8,3,13 and 1 from the reading texts on the board. i will divide students into groups of 4 or 5. i will give them paper stating examples from the text related to a specific number on the board. i will have them match the papers with the numbers on the board. first group finishes wins
i will encourage the students to speak by asking the questions from the coursebook. i will start with lucky numbers i will ask students if they have any lucky numbers. then i will move onto cultures. i will ask about special/ lucky numbers in Turkish culture.
