To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about an amazing journey in the context of travel
Procedure (39-46 minutes)
In this stage, T will show Ss some pictures of holiday and transports and ask some questions about the way people usually go on holiday. T will also show the picture of tuk-tuk and ask if it could be used for a long journey. Then Ss will be asked a question about the main picture of the text to set the context.
This is the point where Ss will read a text a on their own and answer the questions. After a quick peer-check, Ss will answer the teacher's questions. This is meant to guide Ss through the text to see and discover the TL.
Here T draws Ss' attention to TL and asks how the verbs in pink are different from those in blue. Ss may also be asked to discuss in pairs, too.
After drawing Ss' attention to the regular and irregular verbs in text, T will clarify the meaning of TL by asking CCQs from them. Then T will then elicit the form of TL from the Ss and get them to do some drilling.
In this part, after having a short practice on regular and irregular past tense verbs, Ss will be told to read a text and fill in the blank spaces using the words in brackets. After Ss have done peer-checking, T will give feedback and discuss the questions with the whole class.
In this part, Ss think about the last time they visited a different city or town. They will be asked to write 7 sentences and then tell their partners about it. The partners will be required to take notes for the following free activity.
In this part, using the notes they have taken from the previous activity, Ss will be required to tell the class about the city or town his or her partner has talked about. In the meantime, T will be monitoring and checking their errors for further feedback.
