Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn some new vocabulary and do some speaking exercise. The lesson starts with a lead-in to set the context with an image of a Turkish film star after which I will teach some new vocabulary. This will be followed by some speaking activities, and if time allows, there will be a game as well.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll start the lesson by showing the picture of one of the Turkish film stars who is planning to go to the mountain and spend three nights there.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage, I'll ask them to list as many items as "Saban" will need to take with him. Then I will add the target vocabulary to the list to expose Ss to the TL while showing them the pictures of the items being taught.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage of the lesson, I will draw Ss' attentions to the names of the items and the materials.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I'll clarify the words' meaning, form and pronunciation. I might not need to CCQ as all of the words to be taught are concrete words. Showing pictures and realia could be enough. I will also model the words and get the Ss to repeat the words after me.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Here I will hand out some cut-ups with which the Ss are supposed to make phrases in their own groups. Having done it, they then check other groups' answers and discuss with them.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this stage, there will be "Find someone who..." game where Ss try to find someone the statements on the HO are true for. They will then write the name of the Ss and let the whole class know about them.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The last stage of the lesson will be speaking. Ss are told that they will be going on a trip across the desert and that they have already taken a map, a bottle of water, and a knife. They can only take 4 more objects with them. Ss will be discussing in groups what objects they will choose and explain other groups why they have chosen them. Finally, the whole class will discuss which objects they should take with them. When the task is done, I will give feedback on their possible errors on the WB.
