Description

In this lesson ,students will develop the receptive skill of reading through practicing reading for gist and reading for detailed information in a text about embarrassing moments.They will also practice the productive skill of speaking at the end to talk about their embarrassing stories.

Main Aims

To provide gist, detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about embarrassing experience in the context of teachers' lives

Subsidiary Aims

To provide review and practice of key words in the text

Procedure (31-43 minutes)

Icebreaker (4-6 minutes) • To give the students a chance to know more about the teacher.

Teacher draws a 6 pointed star on the board.In the center,teacher writes her name.In the points she writes one word or number that represents something important to her and then get students to ask questions about the words and numbers to guess why they are important .

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask students "How do you feel when you do something foolish or stupid in front of others ?" To elicit the word embarrassed from the students discussion .

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will hand-out words with definitions for Ss to match then check in pairs and then teacher will write the answer key on board. T will highlight MPF of difficult words for students if needed using CCQs.

While-Reading 1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading task

T will ask the students to read quickly to match the photos with the three messages in the text and check in pairs. T will get feedback and ask why they choose the photos like this.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed ,deduction and inference reading task.

Ss will read the messages again and answer the questions and check in pairs . Early finishers will write the answers on WB.Then a whole class feedback with justification of answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to to students to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher will encourage students to talk about their embarrassing moments by telling a story of one of her embarrassing moments. Teacher will ask students to talk to each other about their own embarrassing moments .T will monitor and ask "who got the funniest embarrassing moment ?" for feedback and provide delayed error correction.
