Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of prepositions in the context of describing where houses are
Subsidiary Aims
-
To enable Ss to practise speaking activities
Procedure (42-55 minutes)
Some of the Ss are given prepositions and others are given pictures, they try to match the prepositions with the pictures by walking in the classroom
Ss read the text from previous lesson again, and underline the prepositions of place and following nouns. Ss check answers in small groups, then they are given an answer key.
Elicit prepositions' meaning and when we use them (to describe where the things are or where activities and events happen). Draw a map on the board and use the toy to show where things are. Elicit the form on the board.
Ss complete the sentences with prepositions on page 3. They check their answers in pairs. Whole class feedback.
Each student picks a classmate and writes a few sentences about where he/she sits. They do not look at each other's papers, just ask qus. They work in pairs and try to find out who picked who. Ss use a unisex name to avoid making the game so easy. At the beginning of the lesson, Ss switch places.
Ss are given pictures of houses and they write at least 3 sentences to describe where it is. After they finish, they stand up and ask each other qus about their houses. They can use other adjectives (e.g big) too while speaking but they have to use prepositions of place on the papers. They can pick a house after they see all the houses. They should ask "Would you like my house for the holidays?" before they give their picture to the other student. If they agree, they switch houses. After the activity, ask Ss who swapped with who and why?
