Neighbours, Articles, and Quantifiers

Description

In this lesson students will learn about Articles through guided discovery, starting by reading a text, then through marker sentences and written rule they can get the main usages of the articles then they will practice through an excercise, then we'll move to introduce some of the quantifiers and through guided discovery and practice on it, with some speaking activities in the beginning and the end.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation, deabate in the context of Neighbours

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Have you ever got an odd situation between you and your neighbours. The holy prophet Muhammad said:(Angel Gapriel came and kept ordering me to take care of my neighbours untill I thought that my neighbour will become an angel) the meaning from my translation, a jew neighbour of the holy prophet used to throw the garbage in front of the holy prophet's door every night to obstacle the prophet's way to praying in the dark, few days passed and the holy prophet didn't see any garbage,so he went to check on his jewish neighbour. when the neighbour saw the holy prophet he asked him, why are you coming!? the holy prophet said I came to check on you, when I didn't see the garbage I was worried abou you, the Jew became a muslim. if u have a bad neighbour what would you do discuss in groups

Exposure then practicing scan reading and reading for specific information and providing the context for the grammar (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- take this HO2 Fold it under the first exercise, and read it, try to scan the text in the text page for these questions, you have only two minutes. If I see the majority didn't finish on time may be I will give them one minute more. - check in pairs, - monitor for any question or any problems - unfold the paper and read the text again to answer these questions in the second exercise. you have 4 minutes. - check in pairs. - give them the answer key to check their answers.

Guided discovery presenting marker sentences with the rule (3-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

give the ss the HO1 and ask them to match the a-f with the rules 1-3. Most of the ss are already familiar with the articles. I'll try to monitor and check especially about the usages of no article/ zero article. give them the answer key or write it on the board or elicit it as it is suitable. I'll try to elicit the rules quickly, highlight some more details and move to the next step of practicing the articles exercise.

practice (7-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

It is all written in the HO in they can figure what is required for themselves, but If I have to say: in this HO we will fill in the gaps with the suitable article, do the exercise of the articles, I'll monitor and check if there is any common problem of the topic, I will stop the ss and highlight the point. highlight the weak, and strong form of the articles. switch the groups to check each other.

introducing the quantifiers (4-6 minutes) • elicit the meaning of Quantifiers

break the 'quantifiers" world to quantity+ ify+ er: elicit the concept of quantifiers and get their functions: elicit the meaning of plenty, (few, little: negative meanings), all, many some of the quantifiers are used with countable, some are with uncountable, and some with both.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
