Description

In this lesson , Students will develop their listening skill in the context of “a day off” . The lesson will start with a matching task in which students will decide where to place the months of the year. It is followed by a pre-teaching stage in which students will listen the months lexis and do the related exercise. Later on students will listen for general understanding and detailed information about special days. Finally there is a speaking task where students will have a chance to personalize the topic.

  • To provide practice of months in the context of a day off
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of special days in your country

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a PPP on W/B "Day Off". T asks "Do you work on a day off? " Elicit No What do you do on a day off ? Elicit some ideas.W/C "Do we have days off in Turkey? " can you give some example?" T shows PPP. "What are these "? Elicit "These are some off days in Turkey" . Tell Ssto match the flashcards with the photos. T gives HOs GW. FB>PPP

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T tells Ss to put the months flashcards on the the A3 papers according to the right order. ICQs here> what are we doing? are we speaking? no. Are we placing the cards? yes. T gives HOS Ss work in pairs. Ss check with other peers. FB>W/C what is the first month of the year? " Elicit Janurary etc.. Drill. T introduce ex.1 Tell ss to listen the pronunciation of these months. Where does the voice go up and down? ICQs here. Are we writing? no Are we listening ? yes. T gives HOs Ss listen ( no peer-check here since they just listen the pronunciation. right? :) FB> where does my voice go up and down? T elicit and drill. =( Is ıt necessary? I am not sure ) T introduce ex2. Tell Ss to write the in the correct place. ICQs here > are we listening ? No what are we doing? writing. T gives HOS. Ss peer-check. FB> Tell Ss listen and check their answers. T introduce ex4. Tell Ss work in pairs . "what is your favoruite month? Why? Tell your partner. ICQs here > What are we doing? > talking to our partners. Ss work in pairs. FB >

While Listening #1 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T introduce ex1 . Tell Ss to listen to people talking about special days. Match the speakers with the pictures. ICQs > what are we doing? listening and matching. T gives HOs. Ss lsten and peer-check. Tell Ss go and check your answers on the wall.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T introduce ex2. Tell Ss to listen again. What months are these special days in? ICQs here> what are we doing? are we listening? yes Ss listen and peer-check. W/C FB > T asks "Why?"

Post-Reading/Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T introduce ex3. Tell Ss ask and answer the questions: "Do you ave these days in your country? Do people work on these days? What do they do? ICQS > are we writing? no what are we doing? speaking. Ss stand up and talk to each other. T monitors and help If needed. T takes notes for delayed correction. FB> Nominates Ss.
