The lesson is about alternative therapies. Students start speaking about some words related to the context. After this, students read a text about the context. There are gist reading, detailed reading, vocabulary deduction, and post-reading parts.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will project personal questions related to the context. 1) Do you feel stressed when you are in your school or the workplace? 2) What do you do to relax? T: Now, you are going to work with your partners and discuss these questions. You have 1 minute. ICQs: Are you going to work with your partner? (Yes) How many minutes do you have? (1) Get WC FB

Pre-Reading (4-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will project some words related to the context of alternative therapies. Also, T will put some photos on the board. T: You are going to work with your partner. You will discuss these questions and also talk about the photos. And, match the words with the photos. 1) What do you know about these therapies? 2) Do you know anyone who has tried an alternative therapy? ICQs: Are you going to answer the questions? (Yes) Are you going to match the words with the photos? (Yes), They have 2 minutes to discuss. One st will match the photos on the board. Get WC FB

While-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will project the questions and give the text to the sts. Sts will read the questions first and then read the text. They will find 2 questions related to the text. T will give instructions before giving the HOs. ICQs: Are you going to read the text detailly? (No) Are you going to answer only two questions? (Yes) Are you going to read alone? (Yes) Are you going to answer the questions with your partner? (Yes) You have 2 minutes. Get WC FB

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will give the HOs to the sts. First, they will read it. Later, they will complete the text with the sentences in the HOs. T will give instructions before giving the HOs. T: Complete the text with the sentences in your HOs. ICQs: Are we going to work in pairs? (Yes) How many minutes do we have? (5) One st will write the answers on the board. Get WC FB

Vocabulary Deduction (7-10 minutes) • To help them to comprehend the text better and use them in their speaking

Sts will match five words from the text with their meanings. T will give instructions. ICQs: Are you going to work in pairs? (Yes) How many minutes do you have? (3) After working in pairs, sts will work in small groups and discuss their answers. They have 2 minutes. Get WC FB If there are any wrong answers, then t will ask CCQs (see language analysis) in order to clarify it. T will also pronounce them and the sts will repeat after her.

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will project two questions related to the context. 1) Which changes sound like good ideas? 2) Which changes do you think made the biggest difference? Why? Sts will discuss two questions with their partners. They have 3 minutes. ICQs: Are you going to work with your partners? (Yes) How many minutes do you have? (3) Get WC FB

If-Time Activity 1 (4-7 minutes) • To provide understanding of reading in a short time

T: Imagine that you are in pain. You feel a lot of pain and cannot take it anymore. Your body needs help. Which alternative therapi(es) would you like to use in order to relieve yourself? You have 3 minutes. Get WC FB
