Procedure (36-49 minutes)
T displays picture of Carl and Ellie and elicits lesson context.
T groups Ss and distributes comprehension task strips and models task. Ss watch clip and put strips in order. ICQs: Will you watch first? [Yes] After that will you arrange these slips in the correct order? [Yes] Can you use your dictionary? [No] How much time do you have? [3 minutes] T displays correct order on WB.
T distributes Story HO and models task on WB. Ss work in pairs to match underlined words with their meaning. Ss check answers in pairs. ICQs: Will you write anything? [No] Which words will you look at? [Underlined words] Where are the meanings of those words? [In the box] Will you work alone or in pairs? [In pairs] WCFB T elicits clarification of meaning and form from Ss. T drills pronunciation.
T distributes gap-fill HO and models task. Ss work individually and check answers in pairs. T groups Ss into 4 groups. T explains and models board rush game and distributes Phrasal Verb Strips. Ss respond to visuals displayed by T by sticking the correct phrasal verb. Group with highest points wins. ICQs: Can you run? [Yes] Can you push each other? [No]
T introduces picture of a fictional couple. T explains task and models it. In their groups, Ss will brainstorm a few ideas about the couple's life and fill in the Semi-Controlled Task HO. ICQs: Will you write your ideas here? [Yes] Should you use these words when you discuss? [Yes] Can you add anything else you want? [Yes] How much time do you have? [4 minutes]
T divides Ss in 2 groups. Ss make 2 concentric circles - Ss in inner circle facing outward. Ss must not be facing people from their own group. Ss will talk about the stories they've imagined in previous task. ICQs: Will you read or will you speak? [Speak] (If time do both parts, or else just one): After speaking, T asks the 3 groups to share their stories and/or Ss choose most interesting story.
