Procedure (31-42 minutes)
T will first show an outline of Africa to elicit the word "Africa." Then T will show an outline of Egypt to elicit, "Egypt." Next, T will circle where Cairo is to elicit "Cairo." T will tell Ss that she wants to go to Cairo. Ss will discuss in pairs, what there is to do in Cairo. After a couple minutes, T will have Ss share. After Ss share, T will explain that she will show the "top five things" to do in Cairo, and post up five pictures on the WB of things to do in Cairo (T will ask Ss with "top" means, and will gesture "top"). T will give each pair 1-2 places, and Ss will have to match the places to the photos.
T will hand out a worksheet and explain that in pairs, Ss will have to match the vocabulary words to the correct definitions. After a couple minutes, T will have Ss come up and match the vocabulary words to the correct definitions on the whiteboard.
T will post up four headlines on WB: 1) Visiting Cairo, 2) Seeing Cairo, 3) Living in Cairo, 4) Staying in Cairo. Ss will have to choose which one is not the right headline after reading the article.
T will ask the Ss to remember the five top things to do in Cairo (point to the WB). T will ask the Ss to read the article again and answer: which of the top five things did they do? After, T will ask Ss to discuss in pairs and then lead into FB.
T will have the Ss fill in the blanks of the text with the vocabulary words they learned in the pre-teach stage. Ss will work in pairs, and after, T will have Ss come up to the WB to write their answers.
T will post up five marker sentences containing the five vocabulary words the Ss learned. T will show them how they fit within a sentence, and then show the stress. Then T will drill.
T will hand out an exercise for Ss to do in pairs. Ss will have to make the false statements into true statements based upon the text. After, T will have Ss come up and make the changes on the WB.
T will ask the Ss to discuss in pairs, what the top five things to do in Istanbul are. After Ss discuss, T will lead into a writing practice.
T will give out a worksheet that has template sentences. Ss will fill out the blanks according to the top five things to do in Istanbul; they will do this individually.
T will have Ss come up to the front of the room and partner with each other. They are not allowed to bring what they've written down. Ss will talk to one another as if they were tourists in Istanbul and talk about the five things they did. After a couple minutes, Ss will switch partners and continue practicing fleuncy.
