To provide practice of Simple past in the context of Last week
Procedure (31-45 minutes)
T draws a timeline on the board and writes ”last weekend” she adds that she spent a great weekend and she wants to go back in time. Ss will try to guess what she did at the weekend from the beginning till the end. Ss will work in pairs . The objective of this activity is to create sentences in past tense and get information of one's past. Elicit the types of sentences students can use. Write them on the board.Teacher makes the distinction between the use of the past simple tense and the present perfect tense with relation to time signifiers.
T will deliver HO1 to the ss and tell them that they will complete the gaps by finding who did those actions during last week. To practise simple past verbs ss will complete a “find someone who” questionnaire in three min. To develop fluency, I will encourage students to expand on their sentences. ICQs could help in this session: Are you going to write the same name twice? Can you shout to find a person who did these actions? When they complete the activity I will emphasize the form of accurate sentence structure on the board.
T will give a copy of HO2 to each ss. The ss will complete the information on HO2 while using the information on their slips of paper. They will be mingling , asking and answering questions to complete the task, information about Tim's day. I will monitor them to make sure they are formulating the past tense sentences correctly. The answer key will be handed in and they will check in pairs then WC feedback.
T will give HO3s to the ss. In pairs, they will put the phrases in a correct order in the past. This will also have them talk and write a person's day in a reasonable order. They will write sentences in simple past tense using and, then, after that, etc. When they are run out of all the phrases, T will encourage them to continue the story.
