Procedure (32-41 minutes)
1. Introduce myself. Draw a star on the board and write this information at each edge of the star: 1. 1979 2. Greece 3. Photography 4. Ela 5. Dog 2. Ask students to guess what this information is. Nominate Students. Elicit from them to get them to speak and learn something about them. 3. Ask them how well do they know their classmates. Nominate 2-3 students to talk about what they know about their classmates. If nobody replies nominate a students and ask if he knows someone who plays football.
1.Take out a roll of toilet paper. Script: I brought some toilet paper with me today.... a. Tear as much toilet paper as you want. Pass it over to the your classmates. b. How many pieces do you have? 1,2, etc. c. In each piece of toilet paper write something about yourselves that your friends don't know. Write that on board. 2. Demonstrate: T tears two pieces of toilet paper. Ahhh look, I have two pieces. I will write two things about myself. 1. I have been to Ireland. 2. I miss my dog. 3. Check for understanding: Script: a. What do you have to do? b. Are you working alone or in pairs? c. Are you going to write something that your classmates know or not? Set a time limit using (if possible) music (Dave Brubeck - Take Five), to help students concentrate. Tell them that when the music is over they should stop. If playing music is not possible, set the time limit to 5 minutes. 4. Monitor for students who need help and provide it.
Write Direct Speech --> Reported speech on the board. Explain that we are going to use direct and reported speech for this activity. 1. Work in pairs. Divide pairs in Student A and Student B 2. Student A reads out the things s/he wrote on the paper.Teacher at some point interrupts.....I didn't hear that, Student B what did s/he say? Ss B replies using reported speech. Demonstrate with a student. T gives his toilet paper with the facts he wrote to a student and asks him/her to read. Then Teacher interrupts: "I didn't listen to that" then asks a random student to repeat using reported speech. "He said that he missed his dog. He said that he had been to Ireland". 3. Check for understanding. Script: 1. Who is student A? Students A raise your hands 2. Who is student B? Student B raise your hands 3. What are you going to do? 4. Are you working alone or together? 4. Ss perform and Teacher directs. Teacher takes notes of target language and pronunciation slips.
1. Teacher asks students if they found out something new about their classmates. Elicit from them to gather as much information as possible. 2. Give feedback on the target language. If time allows, highlight 2 good examples (without nominating) and 2 example sentences that are not correct (without nominating). Write them on board and elicit from students to correct the sentences.
