Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice listening and functional language. They will discuss the context through questions and visuals. Before getting into the listening task some vocabulary will be given to the ss.They will listen to an interview about a model with gist and specific listening task. They will also learn some linkers and their structures. This will provide Ss opportunity to use these items while speaking and writing. They will follow this up with various activities; filling the gaps, interactive listening and speaking while discussing their own opinions on the topic.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson will start with a discussion about celebrities, their lifestyle, advantages and disadvantages of being a famous person. T will show some pictures of the famous ppl and ask are they really as perfect as they seem. T will also show some wild lifestyle pictures of the celebrities and ss will discuss why they change after becoming famous.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will give a paragraph to ss (about a friend of some model )on the board and tell them each bold word has some slang equivalents . In 1 min they will read the story individually and T will group the ss and tell them each group are going to be given one card that a slang expression is written on it. When T tells them to turn their cards they try to find The slang equivalents in the paragraph. The other ss in their groups will direct them. When they find the correct slang equivalents, T will revise the story and emphasize the topic again.

Gist Listening (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening

T will give a list of topics from the interview and give them a min to look at the list, tell them to put in the order in which she discusses in the interview. ICQS will be asked to ss: What are we going to listen? What are we going to do with these topics? The ss will listen to the interview and they will put the topics in correct order.check in pairs. Detailed Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide ss with more challenging and detailed listening

Listen to the interview again and T will have them write down the most important words (4) in model's answers. T can pause the recording briefly after the model's answer to give ss the chance to write down. Check in pairs and have them compare their answers with each other. Ask to the ss the words with meanings, write on board when necessary.

Post Listening (5-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs, Ss will discuss whether they think that supermodels deserve the high salaries they receive or not. In small groups they will compare their opinions. WCF on this task and emphasize some of the addition expressions, error correction when necessary.

Functional Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify functional language

T will give marker sentences from the text and highlight the structure of linkers. Ask CCQS, emphasize the meaning, form and pronunciation.Ss will be given a paragraph with some gaps to be filled in on the board. Now, T will make 4 groups and tell them to choose a leader for their groups again and give them a card(with linker words written ). The Ss will try to find the correct linker to each gap, when T allows them to turn up their cards. T will ask ICQs before the game. Review the answers.

Controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To practice their functional Language

In their HOs, they will see the exercise 1, SS choose the correct linker to complete the task in 2 min. Check in pairs. WCF on task.error correction will be done where necessary.Ask why do they choose this linker.

Freer practice (4-4 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the functional language

In small groups,T will give the ss some topics to discuss their opinions. Each group will have a different topic to talk about and they will prepare what they say by using linking expressions. T will listen the speaker when they finish their discussions to ask a follow-up question.
