Description

In this lesson, students will learn different new words and practice them with different activities. They will start with a discussion. Then they will have two speaking parts. Later, they will discover the difference among job, work, and career. After this, they will learn new phrases related to work. Finally, they will find a chance to practice those phrases by speaking with their partner.

Main Aims

  • To expand vocabulary and practice new phrases related to work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give sts semi-controlled speaking practice to develop their spoken accuracy.

Procedure

Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show some Turkish famous people's photos and ask sts: Who are they? What are their jobs? Do you know what they were doing when they were young?

Clarification 1 (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning and pronunciation of work, job, and career

T will write work, job, and career on the board and ask students if they know the differences among them. If not, t will shortly describe them. Also, sts will be helped to pronounce them. Job and work has the same meaning. Job is countable, but work is uncountable. Career is the series of jobs. It is countable. CCQs will be asked Is work uncountable? (Yes) Is job countable? (Yes) Can we have a career without having a job? (No)

Controlled Practice 1 (4-6 minutes) • To concept check related to clarification 1

HO, which will help sts to differentiate job, work, and career, will be given to sts. Work individually Check in pairs Get WC FB

Text matching (8-10 minutes) • To check sts if they know the phrases

Clarification 2 (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

There are 6 phrases in text matching practice T will clarify each phrase (meaning, and pronunciation) CCQs will be asked after each sentences in charge (of): Who was responsible: Madonna or others? (Madonna) to be fired (from): Did she lose her job? (Yes) to be out of work: Was he unemployed? (Yes) to earn a living: Did he make money to support living? (Yes) to be responsible (for): Who was in charge: Tom Cruise or someone else? (Tom) T will pronounce the phrases and sts will repeat

Text Matching 2 (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
