To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for clarifying opinions. in the context of comparing qualifications of people as well as comparing options to form and clarify an opinion.

To provide clarification, review and practice of vocabulary used to discuss qualifications in the context of making a choice or selecting an option
Procedure (77-107 minutes)
Share an example- Speak about my qualifications. I have a degree in.....etc. In my country, you have to study for 6 years to become a doctor. Ask ss about their qualifications. Which jobs do you think require the most qualifications? Elicit a few responses. Pair ss and ask- Do you think people with a lot of qualifications are usually intelligent? Monitor and note responses. Pre teach vocab- Focus on 2A apprenticeship, online course, distance learning, license. Distribute questions to ss and ask them to get responses from their classmates. Elicit meaning from ss as much as possible.
3B Listen and elicit as an open group. Listen again, focusing on the response. Draw attention to the phrases used while expressing an opinion. Ask ss to complete 4A in pairs. Check as an open group. Elicit examples and add to the table.
To the table on the flip (4A), add the phrases given in the box, under 5. For every word/phrase, try and elicit the meaning from the class. Help with examples, wherever necessary. Ask ss to complete 5A individually. Draw attention to the phrases under 6.Again,try and elicit the meaning from the class. Help with examples, wherever necessary. Feedback. Clarify meaning of phrases the ss find difficult- For one thing. Give an example.
Focus on 4 B and C. Choral drill and emphasize on the word stress and pattern.
Complete exercise 7 individually and check in pairs. Feedback, error corrections and clarify doubts.
8A Pre teach vocab- tour guide, land management, marine biology. Instructions: Divide ss into groups of 3.Each group will have ss- A,B and C Read the job advertisement. Mark the most important qualifications in the advertisement. Preparation time- 5 minutes Mark the qualifications of your candidate. Do you think your candidate is the best person for this job? Why? Give your reasons. ( remind ss to use the language practiced earlier) Who should get the job? Display the flipchart with the functional language for this activity. Depending on the number of ss, for example, if there are four students, one could monitor the group for the use of functional language. If there are 5 ss, this activity could be done as a table discussion.
Divide ss into 4 groups. Pre teach- record profits, rewards, shareholders, eco-friendly, innovations, predict, invest, reputation Give them their role cards.( pick from a bowl) Instructions: Read your role card and give reasons why your ideas are the best. Write it down , if necessary. Time - 7-10 mins. Remind ss to focus on the language learnt earlier. Have a discussion around the table. Monitor and make notes. Choose the best reasons . Feedback and error correct.
