Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

My context is dreams and reality. İ will carry on the context by telling the story about my dreams when İ was a child and what happened afterwards. 'When I was a child I wanted to be a detective. But I am a teacher now.' Ask a few students: What were your childhood dreams?

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will give a short test consisting of 5 questions in order to evaluate the knowledge of the TL. İ will monitor. ask them to check in pairs and ask for justifications during feedback to check their understanding of the meaning and the form. İf no one will be acknowledged about the 3rd conditional I will use the PPP steps. İf some students know the TL and others don't İ will spend 5-7 minutes to clarify the language and pass on to the semi-controlled exercise. İf everyone knows the target language I will ask CCQs and focus of the freer practice.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

During clarification if I will see that the students have difficulties with the form or the meaning of the target language I will choose controlled and follow it by semi-controlled exercise and finish with the freer practice. If they will be able to understand all I will pass to the semi-controlled one.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I will use the semi-controlled exercise and see how well they create the 3rd conditional. They will check in pairs. Afterwards I will nominate students and request as answer and justifications. I will compare their progress and if they will be able to use the TL, I will move on to the freer practice.

Free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work in pairs. They have prompts on the boards about the past situations and they are supposed to use them to form the sentences using the 3rd conditional. As a feedback a few students should be asked to share their sentences and the error correction should be performed. If not do it in the next freer activities.

Freer Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide student with more practice of the target language in a role-play situation

They will be grouped (4-3 students). They will be given the situation and the consequences on the PPP slide. Each one will have a role and will have to create his/her own profile. Afterwards they will have to use the 3rd conditional to regret about the situation and decide what they could have done to improve the situation. I will monitor and correct the mistakes. Use ICQs to make sure they don't start answering the question until they've created their profile. `What should we do firstly?`

If-time activity (5-10 minutes) • To provide with more practice of the target language

This activity is alike to the one before. The only difference is that they work in pairs. They follow all the same steps. But I would be nice to regroup them this time.
