Description

In this lesson students will have a reading text and practice on new vocabularies, and have a speaking tasks, lesson starts with clarifying some adjectives and they will practice on it, then they will have a gist and detailed questions on a reading text, after that they will have a speaking and writing activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Culture Shock in the context of travel.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in discussion about the reading context and some personal experiences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will write the word "FEELINGS" in the middle of spidergram on the board. Turn to the class and say "I'm angry, make an angry face and repeat the sentence in an angry tone of voice, then write the sentence on the board. Continue with the other adjectives, adding them to the spidergram. Once students have heard all the words, drill the pronunciation by pointing to the sentence and ask the class to say it in the manner of the word.

Pre-teach vocabulary (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students to some vocabulary and practice on it.

I will give them a hand-out and draw their attention to the pictures. I will give them a hand-out exercise filling gaps After that I will ask them to check their answers with partner and I will write the answers on the WB. after that, i will take feed back by WCFB

Language Note (2-5 minutes) • Draw students attention about how to express feeling when they begin to feel it

I will draw the students attention to the bored and clarify that we can use ( get + adjective) to say when we begin to feel that way, I will give some examples. Then, I will ask them to work in pairs , and ask, answer three questions of ex3 from the first hand out. monitor, and take feedback by nominating.

Pre-Reading (2-5 minutes) • Prepare the students to the reading text.

I will write two questions on the board: What countries do you know? What countries would you like to visit? I will invite one student to ask me the questions and I will answer them, then i will ask them to work in pairs, ask and answer the two questions. Take WCFB Then I will teach them couple vocab in case some of them don't know it like: stage - shock - adjustment

While-Reading #1 (1-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

I will distribute the text paper faced-down on their desks and write on the board: Culture Shock: is it positive or negative thing? then, tell them that they have 30 sec to read the text and answer the question. monitor and take feedback

While-Reading #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, reading tasks

I will give them a hand out questions and ask them to work in pairs Take Feedback by nominate from the pairs.

While-Reading #3 (2-5 minutes) • to provide students with work out meaning of words from context.

with the same partner, I will ask them to read the text again and match the definitions from (ex3 reading) with the big black words from he text. Take Feedback by writing the answer key on WB.

Post-Reading #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will write on the board: Have you ever experienced Culture Shock? in Pairs, I will tell them to ask and answer this question to each other. then take Feedback from pairs

Post-Reading #2 (3-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned with more tasks

I will group them into 3 groups: Amazing Brilliant Beautiful Then I will ask them to write 4 tips to avoid Culture Shock
