Description

In this lesson, Students will learn about what is fact and fiction, and will learn about different types of stories in the context of Movies. They will learn about different types of genres and will listen radio programs about movies and actors and will answer questions with activities about what they listen to throughout the listening exercises

Materials

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about film and radio in the context of fact or fiction

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of types of stories in the context of movie Genres
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a films in the context of fact or fiction

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Work in groups and discuss. Can you think of a film you have seen that has taught you about a person/event in history. - Before going into pairs, teacher will give example of his own as an example" "A film that has taught me something about history is Braveheart as it shows the Scottish fighting the English for independence whites a true event and this film has taught me the problems they went through" Now: "In groups of 2 i would like you to discuss what sort of films you have seen that has taught you about a person or about an event in history" Then elicit some ideas of Ss own experiences. "So now lets have some ideas"

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

To Prepare students will have a vocabulary exercise where they will become familiar with types of stories and film genres. "We have a matching exercise where we will match the types of stories with the description" - First example done as a class. Write a type of story on the bored first and see how much Ss already know e.g. action/adventure. The elicit further examples on the bored and write them down. "Now you will have to match the words in the box with the correct definition" After they have done this "Now i would like you to work in paris and compare your answers in pairs. Feedback: Check answers as a class and drill each word with the class

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

"We will now listen to the first part of a radio program about films and answer the questions". Explain that "you do not have to understand every word" "we will listen to it again" Ss will listen and write down there answers to the questions "Now I would like you to compare answers in pairs of 2" Feedback: Elicit answers from class

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening part 2 and make it accessible

Show pictures of celebrities/ Famous people Ask "Are you familiar with any of these people?" "Which of there films have you seen?" "Now I would like you to get into pairs and discuss about; how do you think they have prepared for there roles? Do you think it was difficult?" Feedback: Elicit Ss ideas

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

"We will now listen to the second part of the radio Programme and while listening answer the questions about the actors and the role they have played" Ss will check answers in paris "Now in paris can you check your answers" Feedback: Elicit Ss answers

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will now work alone to complete the sentences from memory. Then compare answers in pairs. "Now you you will complete the fill in the gap exercise about the radio program we listened to" "just write down what you remember" After "Now can you compare your answers in pairs" Then let Ss listen again. This time the whole radio program and check their answers in feedback. "Now we will listen to the whole radio program again and see if we are right" Feedback: Elicit Ss answers and write them on the board
