To provide scan, gist and detailed reading practice using a text about modern technology in the context of machines behaving badly.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a debate in the context of negative effects of modern technology.
Procedure (39-51 minutes)
T puts 6 cutting edge hi-tech device pictures on the WB and elicits 'HI-TECH'. T asks what they consider before 10 years ago and when they were children. Pics stays on the WB for Post-Reading Activity.
T gets Ss to go back 11 years in time and gives the words and phrases in the book then asks 'WHICH OF THESE DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE OF?' . T T passes out the ''pics on the book''. Ss are to 'Work in Pairs' for 1 min. T asks Ss to tell what was the Hi-Tech 10 years before. T checks the meaning of the words and phrases in the box. In this stage, T aims to introduce the concept of 'High-Tech' with the pics and the info which will be elicited from the Ss.
T asks Ss if feels negatively or positively. T gets Ss to match the paragraphs with the sentences on section 4. T gets Ss to compare their answers in groups
T gets Ss to the task at the Stage 6, then WCFB takes the stage.
T asks Ss Qs in Ss' book, section 7, p.81 . In summary, Ss will discuss what they learned from this Reading lesson.
T passes out the 'hi-tech gadgets' sheets, then he/she gets Ss to work in pairs to guess what the objects are. T asks for Ss' ideas about those cutting edge hi-tech devices and nominates some of them if necessary. WBFB takes the stage.
