Description

In this lesson students will be exposed to comparative forms of adjectives through a reading, 'A trip to Thailand.' Students will skim the article to complete an activity in which they will identify the comparative forms employed for including more, than. We will identify instances of TL review the grammatical rules for using the TL comparative forms of adjectives. By the end of the lesson SS will try to do productive skill using TL forming their own comparisons...

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of comparative adjectives through a reading and grammar exercises.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of comparative form

Procedure

lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To create interest and pre-lesson warm-up among students

After finishing reading with the previous teacher Asks students which city they prefer. And why? Let them tell the differences between these cities (Bangkok and Phuket). Teacher writes some sentences from SS opinion on the board.

Stage 2 (3-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher gives some example from the context 1- Phuket quieter than Bangkok. 2- Phuket looks better than Bangkok. 3- But Bangkok's more crowded than Phuket. 4- The people in Phuket are probably friendlier than Bangkok’s people. Ask CCQS Such as: Are there many people in Phuket? No Are there many people in Bangkok? Yes Is Phuket quiet? Yes Is Bangkok noisy? yes

Stage 3 (4-6 minutes) • To provide understanding of meaning of target language

Teacher gives some example from his material Such as He has two mobiles and he will ask them some CCQs: what are the defferences between these two mobile? size price good first T writes on the board that the first mobile' price is 100 and the sencond one is 1000 TL so the first one is more expensive than the second one. the first one' camera is bad the second one is very good. so the first one is better than the second one. so this mobile is smaller than the other this is bigger than the other Ask SS what are we doing here? T tries to elicit the word (compare) if it doesn't come to the class, T sets the word with definition. Then T asks what is BIGGER, MORE EXPENSIVE, BETTER, and SMALLER

Stage 4 (4-5 minutes) • set the form of comparative form

T gives instruction about next activities T writes down 5 Adjective T Makes 5 columns SS will notice where we can put these adjectives under with columns. this table will contain one syllable two and more syllable ends with Y irregular adjectives and adjectives ending with vowel and consonant after that T gives SS hand out which contains a table from face2face book. SS will complete this table with the correct form of adjectives. T gives the answer keys.

stage 5 Drilling (contextualized drilling) (4-5 minutes) • To provide drilling practice for each structure and to provide feedback on pronunciation

T says that there are 5 sentences on the board SS will repeat these 5 sentences After each time T will delete words from these senteces Till it will no words on the board.

stage 6 controlled practice. (5-7 minutes) • To provide controlled practice through tasks based on understanding the meaning and form of the target language.

T gives instruction about a controlled practice, in which students read statements and fill in the gaps with the comparative form of the adjectives in brackets. The instruction: Here we have 9 sentences. We have after each sentences adjectives. We will put these adectives in the gap using comparative forms. T will do the first senteces. This exercices is from face2face book.

Stage 7 (free practice) (4-6 minutes) • To provide practice for understanding the target language and to create an opportunity for the students to use and practice the target language through integration of speaking activity

-T puts the students in groups. - The students will use the adjectives for comparing the given pictures that will be gaven too them. these pictures contain many kinds of holiday. each group will chose one pictures and they will talk about these two holiday. Teacher monitors them and makes sure the focus is on target language. When monitoring, teacher takes notes of their errors and at the end gives delayed error corrections for feedback.
