Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice through a role play in the context of "talking about languages and being a tourist"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of "can" in requests and ability, in the context of being a tourist in a foreign country

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T shows pictures one by one and asks what the Ss see and guess what happens. 2. T gives some tips by showing some sentences from the dialogue.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

1. T plays the CD, asks students to choose which dialogue each picture belongs to. T asks Ss to put their hands up and vote for their answers. 2. T distributes the listening script and asks Ss to check if their answers were correct. 3. Then nominates pairs to act each script.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. T reflects the request examples on the board and goes through the meanings by asking questions to elicit them 2. As the T goes through them, she does the drilling and modeling

Productive Task(s) (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. T reflects and distributes the dialogue task and asks Ss to work in pairs to find the correct expression from the box and replace to the suitable place. 2. T changes pairs to let ss make a pair check and ask 2 students to act after the correct dialogue is set.

Productive Task - Role Play (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to prepare a role play and act

T reflects pictures and asks ss to prepare a role play and act. Meanwhile, reflects some sample sentences.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T notes mistakes which the ss make in the role play. Helps them find the mistakes and the correct answers
