-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Sorting out arrangements
Procedure (49-63 minutes)
look at examples from the listening that was done in the first lesson and get the Ss to think about the grammar - the future forms. (cd-1.45) Ss will recap the listening and then look at the sentences that are in the whitebox and will think about how they are used. Grammar ex 1 will be used for this "We will now listen again to the conversation" "we will work out which future form the speakers are using" "We will then match sentences a-c with 1-3 in the white box" - Show Ss before giving Matching exercise out follow through with feedback and check how the different future forms are used, and with some drilling
The second exercise is a practice activity for Ss to choose which is the best future form in each case. Ss will do this in pairs/small groups Recording used for Ss to listen and check their answers, be ready to help with any questions about this in feedback following the listening. "you will now read the conversation on this handout and circle the correct Future forms"
EXERCISE 2B Students will discuss there answers in there pairs and find out if there is any differences of opinion. Recording played. If any problems go through with class "Now you will Compare your ideas and explain your choices in your pairs" "After that we will listen and see if your answers are right"(CD 1.46)
Ex 3 about pronunciation - for Ss to notice where the stresses are and the weak forms. Drilling Exercise. Ss will now listen to one recording and write down what they hear ( 6 Sentences ) - give learners time before playing next recording - After Ss will compare there ideas with partner before checking their sentences. "You will now listen to a recording" " I would like you to write down the sentences you hear" "There will be 6 sentences" "After i would like you to compare them with your partner" "Now we will listen to it once more to make sure we have all written the correct sentence
Point of that there are PAIRS OF WORDS in each sentence that are often found together and are not always easy to distinguish because they are linked when we say them. - Say each of the paired words once at a time so Ss can repeat them - Ss practice saying them in sentences Example: " In these sentences there are some parked words which we will go over" "After i Say the word I would like you to repeat them and then say it as a full sentence" "In the first one the paired word is GOING TO" "Please repeat this paired word and sentence "
"In groups of 3 you will now have conversations about a problem" "You will choose one situation together and prepare" - Put Ss in to groups of 3 and give them a letter A,B,C "Now on your own look at the flow chart of the conversation and prepare what you will say" - "Remember to use the future forms we have learnt and used in the lesson so far" "
"Now start Your Conversations" " Once the conversation has finished, change roles and choose a new problem" To round up the class - Look at solutions Students found to the problems Choose one group at a time to give solution to one of the conversations "Now to round up can each group share one solution to the conversation" Students will work in groups of 3 they can choose one of the ideas in ex 4a. Following the guidelines in 4b Ss will get ready for the role-play. Ss first to think about what they will say. - - They then practise their role-plays - Teacher will monitor and take notes of any errors with the future forms. -Then get the learners to change roles (A, B & C) and choose another of the situations in ex 4a and do another role play.
