Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide specific information listening practice using a text about shopping trip in the context of buying things
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of shopping
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
I will set up a small warmer in the context of shopping. I will ask some questions to the ss about shopping. Do they like shopping, what are they buying usually and what are they favourite shops...
I will pre-teach the new vocab to the students issued from the listening. For a better understanding of the new words, I will use some pictures.
In this first stage ss will try to understand the general context of listening (shopping). After few listenings, they will have to find out which kind of shop is the listening talking about and what is the person buying.
This stage of listening will be more detailed than the previous one and will consist of two parts. In the first part, ss will have to scan the listening and will try to find out who is asking questions in the dialogue. The task is to be done alone, however they will check their answers in pairs. The second part is consisting of a matching activity issued from the previous context and in relation with the previous exercise. Ss will have to match the previously done questions with the proposed answers. This last task is to be done in pairs. Both of the tasks will be followed by the teacher's monitoring and F/B. For a better and clearer instructions, ss and the teacher will do the exercises' first examples together.
In this first part of the post-reading task, the teacher will explain differencies between " how much" and "how many" by using some projections on the board explaining the differencies and by using CCQ's. The explanation will be followed by a mingling activity. Each student will receive a card with an answer or a question issued from the context. After they receive the cards, ss will mingle with each other in order to find the missing part, a question or an answer depending of the context. For the second part of this final activity, ss will work in pairs. They will do a small speaking practice by thinking about the three things that they would like to buy in a shop. The last task will be done as a dialogue, similar to the previously done listening (one student will be the customer and its partner the shop assistant). Once they finish the task, they will practice their dialogue and the other ss will have to guess the shops in question.
