Abouzar- 22/03/2016- comparative and superlative structure

Description

In this lesson students are comparing three famous singers via their pictures on the board. They are supposed to use the correct grammatical structure while the class is in the controlled practice stage. Then in the end, they could use the grammar to discuss the city in which they are new.

Materials

Abc pictures of a plane, a train and a bus

Main Aims

  • To present and provide review for how comparative/ superlative structures are formed using the provided pictures.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency practice while they are comparing three different singers through speaking task.

Procedure

Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To warm up the class about the topic on which they are going to work

Teacher tell a short story about his last trip and introduces different means of transportation that he could travel with( i.e. plane, train,etc). Then put the students in pairs to talk about the pros and cons of each alternative.

Grammar presentation (4-6 minutes) • To tell students how to compare different means of transportation

Teacher ask some questions about the quality of each vehicle and lead them to use comparative, superlative structure. they are going to learn the meaning first.

controlled practiced (2-3 minutes) • To make them work in pairs on whatever they have been taught.

Teacher put students in a group of three and give them a handout and ask them to group the adjectives which have the same form of comparative and superlative.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • to learn about the usage of appropriate quantifiers with comparative and superlative of adjectives

Teacher give students a diagram which shows the different sport participants through all the world. Then based on the statistics which shows the percentage of each sport participants, teacher teach them how to use the quantifiers.

Semi-controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • Students put their own ideas on the paper

There is a handout in which there is an activity that let the students put their own ideas on the paper. They are able to compare their favorite people/ things and share their opinions with their classmates.

Speaking fluency (5-7 minutes) • To make the students speak about the city in which they are living/ studying.

Teacher put the students in pairs to discuss all they know about the city and compare the different parts of it. teacher monitor them and take notes of their mistakes and after all put them on the board and ask them to correct it.

Speaking fluency- Activity 2 (3-5 minutes) • Students talk with more than one person.

Students share their new information from previous task with the new student while they are being monitored.
