Procedure (42-49 minutes)
First, I will ask stds what the they have done in the previous lesson to check their background knowledge and I also will have prepared them for my lesson. Then I will start my lesson by asking: "This class is very big, isn't it?, It isn't snowing, is it?, etc.". While saying these sentences, I will pay extra attention to the intonation on "isn't it" and "is it?" to give them the gist of the topic of the lesson.
On this stage, stds will a question completion activity (6A) on pg. 60. It a very simple activity: First they will complete the sentences individually, then listen to the audio the check their answer. The answer key will be projected on the board.
This is the stage on which the stds will see how question tags are used, their rules and examples. In this activity, the rules of question tags are written on the sheet and stds will try to match the examples considering the rules. There are some parts written in "bold" to help stds give the correct answers easily. They will learn question tags via guided discovery method. The answer key will be at the back of the sheet.
On this stage, stds will study the intonation. The teacher will write the sentences on the board from language bank section of the book (pg 136-5.2). First we will look at the meaning, then form and finally the intonation. For example, Question tags are used to check the information that we think is true (meaning). Positive verb+ negative tag(form).if we are sure of the information, the intonation falls on the question tag(intonation).
On the stage, stds simply will do the exercises on the language bank page of the book (pg137-5.2) There are two types of activities: Match the sentences with their tags and correct the mistakes in each question tag. Stds will do this in pairs and check each other. The pairs who got all the asnwers correct can be represented as the answer key;however, the answer key is on the other side of the sheet.
On this stage, stds will be paired and given the auxiliary verbs (do,is, will, etc.) and will come up with two (+) and two(-) question tags. They will only make the first parts of the question tag sentences (It is a nice day today,.....? and will ask other classmates to complete the question tag parts (.................., isn't it). Then pairs will change and this time they will ask question to each other.. The teacher will monitor the stds and give the delayed FB with his/her notes.
In this activity, the teacher will use some cardboards. S/he will write some incomplete question tags and will pick stds randomly to complete the sentences. With this activity, stds will be able to improve their speaking skills and instant sentence creation skill.
