Description

In this lesson ss will learn to give themselves time to think and make guesses in the context of comparing man with beast. The ss will learn to use the correct vocabulary in the same context.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making guesses in the context of discussing animals and comparing man with beast.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Revise the use of articles

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Play articles game as a warmer.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Pair ss. Ask them to discuss 2. Monitor and make notes. Focus on 3A. Ask ss to mingle and compare answers with their classmates. Listen to 4 and check. Go to 8. Ask ss to focus on the phrases that give you time to think.

Task (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Focus on 6 A and then 6B.

Planning (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

Play word with a letter for wild animals, farm animals, insects and reptiles. Split ss into two groups and play. Introduce 10A and B.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Revise phrases. Feedback and correction.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Ask ss to answer 10 B using the phrases in 6 A now. Elicit as an open group.

Language Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Concentrate on question in 7A. Ask ss to go around and ask other ss. Instructions: 'I don't know ' is not a valid response! Monitor and make notes. Feedback and correction.
