Procedure (55-61 minutes)
Use visuals to elicit idea of housework. Elicit some related lexis – e.g. do the dishes. Ss in pairs brainstorm other household jobs w/c FB
Ss in pairs/small groups match phrases to pictures on walls - note there are some extra vocab cards with no pictures. Monitor & encourage Ss to self-correct if needed – early-finishers help slower Ss w/c FB - Get Ss to mime to show meanings of extra items. Check - Which one is not housework? - make a phone call. Drill items from visuals (removing words as needed)
Model questions with 1 or 2 Ss - Do you ...? Use visuals as prompts Ss in pairs ask & answer about the housework they do – e.g. Do you make the bed? using small visuals as prompts Monitor - & help if needed Take some general w/c FB
Ask who usually does the housework in their houses. Show male/female pics to elicit ideas. Give listening title – ".... % of men don't do the housework, new survey says" Check Ss know what a survey is (model doing a survey in the street to help) Elicit guesses about the percentage - give options - 50%, 75%, 80% Explain Ss will listen to a radio programme, find out the percentage & hold up visuals of lexis (housework) when they hear it mentioned. Give out the visuals. Ss listen and check - if necessary pause listening after first item mentioned to check they know to hold up the visuals. Ss peer-check – w/c FB
Ask Ss if they can remember who is talking on the radio programme – elicit characters Ss in pairs talk about what they remember – who does what – using p. 46 ex 3 about Ralph, Ralph’s mother, Tom and Tom’s wife. Ss listen & check their answers. Ss peer-check – then check with answer keys
Get Ss’ response to listening – Are they surprised? Is it the same in Turkey? Ss in pairs talk about what housework men & women do in Turkey. General w/c FB
