Description

This lesson sets the context to the following lessons. Students will practise the reading skills. The lesson will start with the talk about friendship, then th Ss will discuss the concept of a creative friendship. After that they will read the text about a creative friendship and do several tasks.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about creative friendship in the context of art

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of friendship and art
  • To provide clarification of character adjectives in the reading text

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start the lesson by asking Ss about friendship. How many friends do they have? How have their friends influenced their life? Did they change it or helped them somehow? First Ss discuss this in pairs, then ask several students to share

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give Ss the title of the text "Creative friendship" and the photos of Matisse and Picasso from page 43. Put them in groups and have them discuss and try to guess what is a creative friendship and what the text is going to be about. WC feedback

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give Ss a HO with some sentences with the words(that they are going to see in the text) underlined, below there are definitions and they need to match underlined words with the definitions.First drill these words, then Ss do the HO. Peer check. Then answer key projected

While-Reading #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging scan reading tasks

Give Ss the text and set a limited amount of time(2-3 mins) scan the text for the information needed to complete the table in ex 1 p 42 reading. Peer check. WC feedback

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

Ss read the text again and find answers for the questions in ex 2 p 42 reading. Peer check. WC feedback

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Put Ss in groups and have them make a pair of friends of any 2 famous people (real or imaginary) they know. Explain why these people would be such great friends and say what they have in common, what they can do togehter, how they could influence each other's lives. Then groups nominate 1 student to present their ideas
