EC - lesson 4
grade1 - A1 level

Description

The ss wiil learn to name and differentiate their different relationships. They will also learn to use related functional language.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review of language used for greetings in the context of starting school
  • To provide clarification and practice of relationships in the context of a school playground

Subsidiary Aims

Perhaps the most important element of any plan is the part where we say what our aims are.Jeremy Harmer in The Practice of English Language Teaching

Procedure

review (7-9 minutes) • To have the ss remember the previous lessons

Go through the usual greetings. Ask ss what they remember generally from prvious lessons. El;icit specific things. Like who Beeno is, or what spelling means.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T asks the students to open their books on page 7. The T reads the story out loud and the ss repeat each sentence. the T uses this to check understanding of the different words and sentence patterns of the text.

Highlighting, Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the time of day language

Using a ppt. The T draws attention to and clarifies the relationship vocabulary. The T then sets up a game for which a St needs to read what the T writes to get the chance to throw a ball at the picture of the corresponding word. After the game a second reading of th text is done as a whole class. Individual ss are then asked to read sentences playing out the different roles.

Extra (5-10 minutes) • Consolidation

The class plays the game of hangman with the different elements of the TL, to consolidate their ability to read them.

Extra 2 • Aditional exposure to the English language, and give ss the opportunity to relax

Play a video, hopefully the "Song of the Sea" movie if not a following moomins episode (3).
