Procedure (32-54 minutes)
-show sts pics of my car, explain that I like driving my car whenever I needed to go somewhere. Try to Elicit that I'm "used to" using my car. -show sts pics of istanbul transit, explain that I'm not comfortable yet taking the metro because it's crowded and hot.. try to elicit that I'm still trying to "get used to it".
-explain to sts I'm going to tell a story about a friend named cameron. -warn sts that instead of saying some words, I will say buzzboo. each time I say Buzzboo, it replaces the same two words. -ask sts to listen and decide what the missing words are, but to not shout out the answer. Use ICQs -tell story, repeat once. ask sts if they would like to hear it again.. -put sts into pairs and discuss what the missing words are. - collect possible answers and establish that Buzzboo is "used to"
-on WB write the 3 sentences used to/is used to/ get used to. Explain that each has a different meaning. Ask sts to think about the story they just heard and decide what the 3 different meanings were. Elicit answers from sts.
-chest HO1, explain they must choose the correct verb form to the 6 questions in exercise 1. Use ICQs -tell sts they may use their check with their neighbours for help.. - ask a sts to read out correct answer. model pronunciation and drill if necessary.
-place the 3 wall activity header sheets on the wall -put students into 3 groups -show sts that they must place sentences into correct category. Model first sentence. - confirm with WC that sentences are in correct category
-explian to sts that they will listen to an interview with a trainer of guide dogs for the blind. -show HO2 exercise 2 questions that they must listen to see if she answers them. and write answers down. -use ICQs
-ask the students to write one sentence for each category for used to, is used to, get used to. -ask a sts if they would like to read out an answer and have the WC guess which category it should be put into.
