Procedure (33-46 minutes)
The teacher will write her birthday on the WB:. 16 August and explain to Ss that date is her birthday. Teacher will then give Ss instructions to stand up and ask each other their birthdays and mark it on the calendar HO. After a few minutes, Ss will return to their seats and the teacher will ask them to tell her another student's birthday.
Teacher will go over the 12 months of the year and teach the correct pronunciation. The teacher will have the students repeat the months in order (January, February, etc) as a whole class to correct any pronunciation problems. Next, the teacher will show the powerpoint of the different seasons, while asking the Ss questions about the photos. The teacher will teach the correct pronunciation of the words: winter, spring, summer, and autumn.
The teacher will hand out the reading HO, "When to Go" and instruct the Ss to read the descriptions of different cities in the world. After a few minutes, the teacher will instruct Ss to underline the adjectives in the text. Teacher will have the whole class go over the adjectives and teach any vocabulary that students seem confused about. Adjectives: wet, dry, sunny, hot, warm, cool, cold
Students will work individually to do exercise 1b on the 'When To Go' handout, which is five questions relating to the text. Teacher will walk around and monitor. When most of the students are finished, the whole class will go over the answers. If time is running low, the teacher will give the students an answer key.
Teacher will give instructions for students to write a 'when to go' text. Students will write about a place they traveled to in the past. Teacher will then put students into pairs and have them discuss what they just wrote with their partner. If there is extra time, students will get into new pairs and do the same.
