Procedure (35-47 minutes)
-- Ask the Ss what the topic was in the previous lesson. (e-shopping) -- Ask the Ss to find expressions with "take" in the reading text from the previous lesson. Encourage them to check in pairs before the FB. -- Elicit the answers and write them on the board. -- Join the pairs to make groups of four, and ask them to explain the meanings to each other--in English. -- Get FB to check if they have grasped the meanings.
-- Elicit the words "advert," "breath," "advice," and "voucher" to and check whether the Ss know the words correctly.
-- Tell the Ss that they are going to see more collocations with "take." -- Give the HO to the Ss and ask them to fill in the blanks with the provided words and phrases on Side A. Tell them that it is OK if they do not know all of the answers.Give a time limit of 3-4 minutes. -- Ask the Ss to check their answers in pairs. -- Ask the Ss to turn the HO over to Side B and read more examples of the collocations with "take" in different sentences. -- After reading, ask them to do the matching exercise at the bottom of the page and then check with their partners in pairs. -- Ask the Ss to turn over the page to Side A and try to fill in all the blanks or see whether they have filled in the blanks correctly. -- Encourage them to check their answers in pairs. Ask to check if the Ss have grasped the meanings completely.
-- Ask the Ss to discuss and decide in groups of 3 what product each advertisement is trying to sell. -- Get FB by asking them to write the product they came up with on the WB. (If the Ss have different ideas, encourage them to be more specific with their reasons, referring them back to the gap-filling exercise.)
-- Ask the Ss to work in pairs/small groups to create an advertisement. Tell them that they are supposed to use at least one collocation with "take." -- Monitor to see if the Ss have problems with grammar and word use. Correct their sentences if necessary before the task is complete. -- Ask the Ss to read their advertisements aloud in order for the other pairs/small groups to guess what it is trying to sell.
