Materials
Main Aims
-
To introduce and give practice in “have/has got” yes/no questions & short ans through the context of talking about personal possession.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To give Ss practice in speaking for accuracy and fluency.
Procedure (33-43 minutes)
Refer back to the previous lesson & elicit some of the questions they heard on the listening, e.g. Have you got a computer? Give Ss ex 10 & get them to work together to fill in the gaps. Take w/c FB. Give Ss some open class practice of the TL – asking & answering different questions – do this by prompting with an item, e.g. a radio - & showing which 2 Ss should ask & ans – Have you got a radio? Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.
WkBk ex 5 - Ss work together to rewrite the questions in a). Take w/c FB. Then refer Ss back to the chart from the previous lesson (WkBk ex 4) & get Ss to ask the qus & ans them - & write the short ans in b). Give an ans key or check ans by getting Ss to ask & ans the qus open class.
Elicit the word “twins” & ask if twins have usually got the same things. Set up a pw activity for Ts Bk p 140. Introduce the characters & make sure they know how to pronounce the names, & that they know Harry is a boy, & Harriet is a girl – so whether to ask he/she questions. Explain how many differences there are (see instructions in the T’s bk) & demo the activity. Ss work together to ask & ans questions. Monitor. Get FB on what different items the twins have got – encourage Ss to make sentences such as, Harriet’s got a diary, but Harry hasn’t.
Demo how to do a Find Someone Who activity. Give Ss either the HO from pp 105 or 113 (split around the class approx 50/50). Ss mingle and ask each other “Have you got a …?” . Monitor for good use of the TL & to check Ss are speaking to more than 1 person, & redirect where appropriate (but don’t get too involved). When some have finished – or time’s up – get all Ss to sit down & take some general FB – e.g. Who’s got a computer?
