Quantifiers
Upper Intermediate level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice and review of quantifiers in the context of food
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide practice and review of food facts
Procedure (34-52 minutes)
I will use the overhead projector to show a picture of the famous American show "19 Kids & Counting." I will use the target language of quantifiers to ask Ss their opinions about the picture. For example, "Do you think there are a lot of children in this family? Do you think there are too many children?"
Students will work individually on the HO in which they will fill in the gap with the correct quantifier. Ss will check their answers with their partner. The WC will then listen to the audio to check answers.
In pairs, Ss will underline the foods in the 'Food Facts' HO and discuss whether the nouns are countable or uncountable. They will then discuss the quantifiers in the word bank and write whether the quantifiers are with countable nouns, uncountable nouns, or both. Ss will check their answers with an answer key.
WC will go over the sentences on the powerpoint slide. Ss will explain the difference in meaning on each of the pairs of sentences
I will hand out the HO and have the Ss will work in pairs on exercise #2, in which they will make 12 sentences about themselves using the given word/phrases. I will walk around and monitor.
Students will work in pairs to write an advice sheet on 'what to put in a small suitcase for a one week beach holiday,' using quantifiers. Ss will then merge with another pair to compare their answers.
Ss will work in pairs to complete #1 on the Quantifier HO.
