Procedure (34-45 minutes)
1) T shows ss a 2 minute video and elicits what's it about? 2)T asks ss "Who do you usually give tips to in your country?" 3) Ss discuss their answers for one minute. 4) T elicits some of the answers. (delayed FB)
T elicits the meaning of following words following MPF order. Dilemma (n) countable /dɪˈlem.ə/ : situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two different things you could do, problem CCQ: If you are in a dilemma is it easy to make a decision? Is it easy to choose one thing? Complicated (adj) /ˈkɑːm.plɪ.keɪ.t̬ɪd/: involving a lot of different parts, in a way that is difficult to understand. CCQ: Complicated instructions, Are they easy to understand? Are they clear enough? vary (v) /ˈver.i/ If things of the same type vary, they are different from each other, differ CCQ: Do the salaries vary from city to city in Turkey? Compulsory (adj) /kəmˈpʌl.sər.i/ Something that is necessary, you must do it because of a rule or law: CCQ: Is the military service compulsory in Turkey? Customary (adj) /ˈkʌs.tə.mər.i/ usual, traditional, CCQ: Is it customary to serve candies and chocolates during Bayram? Precise (adj) /prɪˈsaɪs/ exact and accurate. Ss need to guess the correct answers. 2) Ss discuss their answers together. 3) T elicits some of their answers. 4) T gives ss the text to read and check for the correct answers. INSTRUCTION: "Now read this text ALONE and check your answers" ICQ: Will you read with your friends: no, alone. 5) Ss discuss their answers with their partners. 6) T elicits the correct answers as they gradually appear on the screen.
